Толпы растерянно расступались, заторможено оценивая трагичность складывавшейся ситуации: громко рыдая, раскрыв рот до предела, выплёвывая слюни и потоки стекающих слез, по парку брел потерявшийся малыш. Вой, словно сирена, привлекал внимание окружающих, однако те сочувственно пошатывались то вперед, то отступали назад, так и не решаясь, что же делать и как помочь отбившемуся от родной стаи. То и дело слышались какие-то советы и стратегические подходы к данному обстоятельству, а малыш все шел в никуда. Затихли футбольные критики и политические аналитики, просиживающие штаны на пошарканных скамейках.

Вопль уже не походил на человеческий. Ведь мама услышит, ведь мама придет; и малыш не сдавался, надрывая из последних сил голосовые связки.

Карапуз, крепко сжимал в кулачке воздушный шарик, как единственного и преданного друга в стране великанов – застывших взрослых. Как доказательство из иного мира, где все было прекрасно. Как последнюю надежду.

И мама услышала: как атомный ледокол, пробиваясь через толщи векового льда, как комбайн в поле пшеницы, устремилась к своему чаду.

В общем, нашелся малыш и затих. Да вот только так накричался, что заблевал и ледокол, и  весь асфальт в радиусе одного метра. Совсем как взрослый.

I bet nine of ten overseas long-term assignments will bring tons of new emotions and impressions, unless you are already familiar enough with particular culture and overall life conditions. Otherwise you may have memories for the rest of your life. Pleasant or the ones you would rather forget – depends on every one of us, as simple and common as it sounds.

It would take me weeks and at least three new keyboards to share all the occasions and deviations from previously well-known life. Therefore, let me introduce to you the two most visited places on a daily basis: home and work. Then shall we decide what to do further.

Dormitory – accommodation for approximately five hundred of hotel employees. There are twenty two rooms on each floor. Entry-level employees such as waiters, bellboys, front desk officers live six persons in a room; duty managers, management trainees or using other words middle-level managers live two persons in a room. Comparing to the rooms of lower floors, there is a TV and air-conditioning system, cabinets as well as twin beds instead of barrack ones, not to mention the presence of lavatory in WC. Finally, top floor is for department managers: one person per room, twin bed, larger desk and probably the most desired aspect – some privacy.

Difficult to imagine, how it feels, when there are five other people in the same tiny room: somebody comes from work; meanwhile someone is just on a way to. To ease up living conditions Human Resource department is doing their best in order to accommodate needs of every single inhabitant of dormitory – assuming the working roaster, at least.

Position assigned to me provides me with benefit to live on 10^th floor with just other guy, who is night shift duty manager. Means that I`m alone at night, while he enjoys privacy during day-evening time. Every single aspect of our well-being has negative sides as well. So does different working shifts with roommate. I would prefer not to mention it, since it should be a way better while concentrating on bright sides.

On the first floor there is an imitation of convenient shop, where maximum amount of articles is fit within extremely limited space. Instant noodles, local snacks, beverages and bathroom amenities – top products. Prices are just slightly higher than in large supermarkets, means low enough. Working day of vendor is quite long, I would say: from 7AM to 12-30AM. Though, it`s quite difficult to find storekeeper at his working place during midday.

This is, probably, the first time in my life I have to hand-wash my clothes. Washing machines are absent, moreover, are not very demanded in China, since it is considered to be kind of pleasure for a girl to wash belongings of her beloved one. Public laundry service is available within premises of the dormitory for affordable fee, however, at some points clothes may become even dirtier after washing cycle. Not surprising, considering how many people use the equipment.

Irreplaceable attribute of every single yard – table tennis. However it`s not so popular among residents of the house.

The main sightseeing within the area of our dormitory – portable barbecue “station”, which arrives in a smooth weather at evenings and settles down just in front of the entrance.  Great possibility to have some beer and nice food with your mates for affordable price. Sometimes barbecue headquarters turn into concert hall when too much beer is consumed. At some points you regret that the entrance is too far away from the balcony – too difficult to throw eggs far enough.

Parking lot is under security supervision 24/7, including hours when guards are sleeping, which is common. Apart from human resources entire area is observed with CCTV, therefore it`s considered to be safe to park any vehicle there. Bicycles, scooters: both electric and petrol based, cars – vehicle preference is based on position and accordingly salary.

Distance from the dormitory to the hotel is approximately 2.6 kilometers. For the mass-shift periods shuttle-bus transports employees (once per hour during early morning hours, once in the afternoon, further couple of times in evening). The schedule is very strict: late for one minute – go by foot. Makes no sense to mention importance of having any type of vehicle.

Underground parking in hotel fits significantly more transportation units, since part of employees live in nearby surroundings.

For the privacy reasons I will not upload photos of internal premises. Official photos are available on hotels` web as well as the sites of travel agencies.

The only area I will dare to cover – staff canteen, which looks quite shocking for Europeans during lunch-time, when hundreds of employees gather in the same room.

Which food will you get today for lunch – question of how lucky you are. At some points empty trays are replaced by others, and as strange as it is, the food will be different. I may choke down greasy beans, while my colleague who came five minutes later may be enjoying stir-fried tomatoes mixed of nicely cooked eggs.

To leave leftovers of food on a table (bones and any other inedible parts) is a common pattern in local culture. Accordingly, after large group leaves it could be a difficult task to find a clean spot before canteen staff will take care of tables.

What`s the menu for today? Well, if I tell you that we have kind of bread and eggs for breakfast and rice for lunch and dinner, I will never be mistaken. Side dishes change but never does his majesty RICE. Rice is served ten times per week. I can`t lose weight, because I eat rice in my dreams. And now I came to the point that I got quite confused: do I eat rice or rice eats me? Ok, not so bad for now.

Meanwhile, it`s time for dinner. What`s the menu for today?

To get invited for a dinner is a considerably common thing. Despite of the fact that Chinese inhabitants prefer to dine outside, I had a pleasure to be present at in-house event.

Though, the road for a meal took a while, since parents of my colleague leave outside the city, in a rural area.

A bit of dining culture, witnessed personally by me (in many other places as well):

Since game is eaten with chopsticks, the bones are spitted directly on table or floor. The same statement applies for an inedible food. Significant amount of tissues should be present on a table. In our case the floor remained clean, since three dogs and cat were attentive enough to catch leftovers in the air.

It is appropriate to stretch hands all over the table, crossing personal space of people around, in order to help oneself to get some food. As soon as you get to know people next to you, process seems to be amazing enough, since immediately you start feeling yourself closer to ones you didn`t know a while ago. Though, I can`t say, whether these others feel in the same way.

Up to this moment I have never seen Chinese to drink water while eating. It could be either tea, or most preferably beer, poured to short or even shot glasses. If Russians would drink shots of vodka with the same consistency and speed, they would get deadly drunk before finishing with the scrambled eggs for a starter. Don`t get me literally.

Difficult to say, what fills up a stomach faster: food, slowly consumed with huge chopsticks, or beer in short glasses.

Should notice, in most cases ladies either don`t drink beer at all or prolong a beverage for quite a long time.

I wasn`t offered and of course did not ask myself to proceed to bedrooms, therefore the only photos uploaded cover the living room, kitchen and outside area.

From the Western point of view, the entire area may seem to be on the edge of poverty. Though I`d like to assure you, that family is wealthy enough to afford acquiring imported car, which is appears to be a luxury at some points due to high imposed tax.

Just to sum up, in order to truly enjoy such occasions without feeling kind of embarrassment, various stages of cultural shock need to be passed first. Using different words, unspecified amount of time is needed to enjoy sharp edges of cultural differences and patterns.

It was fine… it used to be fine. At least I was told so. Fortunately-unfortunately I wasn`t mature enough in order to witness and judge comprehensive aspects of USSR. The only option I had is to evaluate the information given by others.

At any case, once upon a time the location we have visited served as recreational center for employees of Latvian Railroads, further it was reconstructed into camp for children. USSR has collapsed, governmental borders emerged once again. Dozens of factories as well as various camps and sites were left without management and any type of supervision. Years have passed, the winds of time destroyed everything, what was once built. I guess it`s quite enough of saying: Abandoned Camp in Ogre.

Time to leave. As we have found out much later, nearby there was a bunker, big enough – 3 stores below the ground. Moreover, it would make no significant difficulty to enter. Some advice for the ones going for any type of trips: seek for information related to a site prior to departure.

Passing by through attractive graveyard, where bodies of Soviet and German soldiers are buried (Germans on the left from dividing road, Russians – on the right). I would never think that such a peaceful atmosphere and complete harmony could be present in the places where dozens of human-beings are placed.

Allow me to serve a photo of Ogres concert hall for a dessert. As I was informed, Ogres Estrada used to be a quite demanding place for Russian pop-stars as well as Tiesto and other Trance performing DJs. Though, conflicts among Ogres municipality and owner of a site resulted in lack of investments as well as inability to cooperate.

Good news for lovers of exotic: as from July 21st I`m moving to China in order to keep serving articles and photos from Asia. Keep in touch. Regards.

Life goes up and down, constantly.. The same applies for any business aspects. Food and beverage establishment located in a very heart of Nicosia once upon a time was among coziest and most desired places in the capital. However, financial crisis has brought a range of various impacts. As result, few days ago, Pizza Mia was forced to close due to bankruptcy. Whatever is left inside now is shown on the snapshots.

Задумали переезд? За моря, океаны? Еще лучше! Вперед, к цели, семимильными шагами, галопом, перескоком, об телегу и так далее по списку. Но я бы предпочел обычный самолет. Ну, в общем, не к этому тема ведется. Позвольте поделиться заметками рукоблудного сына.

Ехать в слепую, то есть без предварительной разведки по данным, может обернуться весьма плачевно. Помню себя в полном боекомплекте с зимней курткой под мышкой в 40 градусное июльское пекло на Кипре. Думаю, если бы не выжил, то заголовки местных газет огласили что-то типа «Пять шагов на пути к моментальному обезвоживанию или очередной русский турист с носком до колен». Благо, повода прессе для насмешек не дал и до пункта назначение каким-то образом дополз.

Сказать, что никакой информации я не искал, значить – соврать. Мельком на карту Кипра на глобусе я глянул, приблизительный масштаб оценил. Ах да, также прочитал про какую-то древнюю традицию: мол, не удивляйтесь, если во время прогулки на вас неожиданно посыпятся  лепестки цветов, ибо девушка при выражении симпатии вполне может прибегнуть к такому методу.  Ну и представляю я себя туфлями цокающим по мостовой, весь благоухающий такой, как луковица, в пальто из лепестков, сзади такая колонна девушек в традиционных греческих платьях. Все улыбаются, всем хорошо.

А теперь немного реальности: какие цветы? На острове, чья территория не оснащена современными ирригационными системами, где дождь льёт только пару месяцев зимой, а в остальное время солнцепек доводит землю до пустынной истрескавшейся местности. Кактусы и те выстроились в очереди за визами в страны более влажные, а египетские верблюды даже в период безработицы сюда соваться и не думали. Теперь давайте представим цены на цветы. В общем, хотелось бы мне поставить под сомнение истоки такой традиции, и непременно осыпать автора за разбитые мечты.

Зато удосужился лицезреть несколько иной подход проявления симпатии: из проезжающей машины метается в пешеходов всё, что под руку попадется. Разок целились и в меня; повезло местным, что не догнал. Хотя, если честно, даже и не пытался.

В общем, предупрежден – значит, вооружен. У опытного эмигранта в багаже всегда должно оставаться место для базуки и нескольких гранат.

Попутных ветров и терпения.

Не нужно идти через полсвета сквозь адские дюны под беспощадными штормами небес, стирая до пяток подошвы. До тех пор пока дырявые карманы не превратятся в сито, через которое любая мечта рассыплется как песок, так и не успев сформироваться. А затем, много позже, на последнем из дыхании, вернуться в опустевший дом, повалиться с ног и сильно удариться о то, что мы так давно искали. Ведь есть миллион причин быть счастливым, почему же так трудно выбрать хотя бы одну и быть им?

Пройти через всю жизнь одному… Это ведь тоже самое, что исполнить композицию на рояле из шестиста клавиш. Преданные друзья, родственники и просто люди, чьи пути пересекаются с нами, и служат той самой второй рукой, создавая шедевр. Нужно лишь прислушаться к ритму. Сердечному.

Важно осознать и навсегда запомнить, что любые наши интересы и действия всегда доблестно отстаиваются кем-то или чем-то невидимым, подобно справедливому адвокату, яростно отстаивающего на сто процентов невиновного подозреваемого в небесном суде. И если что-то случилось, будь-то до слез приятное или до криков болезненное, будьте уверены, что это лучшее, что могло случиться на тот момент, и ни за что не пытайтесь открыть ту дверь снова. Всегда везде и во всем есть солнечная сторона, её и придерживайтесь.

Люди не меняются, говорят те, кому не под силу перемены.

Вот так всегда, зараза, зашел на рюмку – ушел после бутылки. Опять идти через лес домой, еще и в полнолуние.

Каждый шаг оглядываешься назад, от каждого дуновения ветра прыгаешь в близростущий куст. Ноги то переходят на бег, то подгибаются в коленях от тревоги.

В какой-то момент перестаёшь осознавать, что является плодом воображения, а что может представлять реальную угрозу. Еще в такой ситуации поневоле задаешься вопросом: «Что сейчас весит больше: звенящие в такт монеты, полученные после сдачи стеклотары, или честно наложенная в штаны куча?». Причем где-то глубоко в подсознании понимаешь, что ответ вряд ли устроит гордую мужскую часть личности.  Надо как-то находить выход из положения. До села еще как до коварно светящей луны, а разум уже в страхе бьётся в тесной черепной коробке. И тогда начинаешь: сначала тихо, слегка неуверенно и застенчиво, что-то насвистывать.  Потом свист, в попытке убедить самого себя, что, мол, не страшно, и хозяин тут я, переходит на робкое напевание знакомых мотивов. Однако, всё равно ведь страшно. Терпеливые деревья не сводят глаз и следят за каждым шагом, чтобы  в любой момент наброситься и сожрать заблудившегося путника. Филин, сидящий на ветке, того и гляди превратиться в шамана, и тут уже несдобровать. И заяц за кустом… а нет, заяц просто какает.

И понеслась родная: затяжные тона, крики, вопли, до совершенства отполированный вокал, и всё такое, чтобы нечисти и прочей аномалии самой страшно стало. Вот только не водится такая ересь в лесах, и быть её там не может. А вот лесных гномов, которые уже неделю нормально поспать не могут,  мужик порядком заебал. К слову, гномы еще и гомы. В общем, поплатился мужик, и с тех пор больше не поет. Конец.
